Mr. Greber is a partner of the firm, and is responsible for the operation of the Frederick, Maryland office. His practice concentrations include corporate and intellectual property law, complex litigation in the areas of business, copyright, insurance coverage, and construction law, and estate planning.

Corporate and Intellectual Property Law

Mr. Greber's extensive corporate law experience includes representation of companies in all stages of their corporate life-cycle, from initial founding, through growth and expansion., He has negotiated and drafted a wide variety of corporate contracts, including distribution agreements between American and foreign entities, joint venture agreements and license agreements.

Within his corporate practice emphasis, Mr. Greber has represented computer software and services companies since he entered law practice in 1984. His interest in this practice area began with computer programming courses in college, with his extensive use of personal computers in business school, and with his early championing of the use of computers in both law practice and the businesses of his clients. He has represented software developers in licensing and sub-licensing their software and in contracting to develop or customize software. Mr. Greber has helped his clients to protect their intellectual property by drafting non-disclosure agreements and by negotiating employment agreements with computer programmers. He has assisted clients in registering their copyright and trademark interests, and in protecting their trade secrets. Mr. Greber's intellectual property clients are not limited to the software industry, in that he has also participated in both counseling and litigation on behalf of architects, home builders and other design-oriented service professionals, and has negotiated contracts for the distribution of bio-technology products.

Mr. Greber assists small businesses in planning for the succession of their owners, whether to current co-owners of the businesses, or to the children or grandchildren of the owners, through buy-sell agreements and partnership agreements. Before founding the firm, Mr. Greber practiced with McGuire, Woods, Battle & Boothe, a large regional law firm based in Richmond, Virginia, where he successfully led the firm's first representation of a client engaged in a hostile takeover of a publicly-traded corporation.

Complex Civil Litigation

Mr. Greber has been involved in a variety of litigation matters before federal and state courts, ranging from a federal class action suit alleging violations of ERISA by a national labor union, to claims involving violations of various intellectual property rights, to large insurance coverage cases, to personal injury and automobile tort cases. He has argued before the federal Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, and has served as defense counsel in several complex insurance coverage disputes, including Keene v. Columbia Casualty, in which the court upheld the insurer's refusal to extend coverage under $13 million of general liability excess policies. (11 No. 7 Mealy's Litig. Rep.: Ins. 3, Nov. 27, 1996). His litigation clients have also included both defendants and plaintiffs in disputing arising under Title VII, the Fair Labor Standards Act, and a variety of other employment law statutes. He also served as an arbitrator in a commercial dispute involving the European distribution of American products by a foreign corporation.

Estate Planning

Mr. Greber has designed and implemented estate plans using such estate planning tools as wills, living trusts, qualified domestic trusts (for non-U.S. citizens), life insurance trusts, charitable trusts, and family limited partnerships. Although Mr. Greber represents a number of complex estates, he is also pleased to represent clients who require more basic estate planning, such as simple wills, living wills, advanced health care directives and powers of attorney.

Admitted to Practice

Mr. Greber is a member of the Bars of Maryland and Virginia, and is admitted to the United States District Courts for the Districts of Maryland, and the Western and Eastern Districts of Virginia. He is also admitted before the federal Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.

Education

Mr. Greber received his law degree from the Northwestern University School of Law in 1984, where he was an Editor of the Northwestern Journal of International Law and Business, and his M.B.A. from Northwestern University's J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Business in 1984, where his studies concentrated in the area of finance. He is a 1980 cum laude graduate of the University of Virginia, where he studied English literature and was an Echols Scholar.

Community Service

Mr. Greber is a member of Grace Brethren Church of Frederick, Maryland. He has served as Chair of the Board of the Frederick Symphony Orchestra, and chaired the board of the Frederick County Crisis Pregnancy Center.
